Speak Onion - Swallower

 photo 1326049748-1_zpsbe257444.jpg

drum n noise, noise n bass... whatever. this is breakcore to me. had the wonderful opportunity to play with Speak Onion at the second Mobcore show in Chicago ; and boy was it a treat. His music is even more abrasive and enveloping in person. This new joint, "Swallower", does not disappoint in the slightest. Speak Onion has a very unique style. You'll be hard pressed to find the average amen making an appearance. Reminiscent of Xanopticon in all the right ways. You'd expect him to be playing with the "big boys" on labels like Hymen, Ad Noiseam, and Ant-zen. Released on New York's very own Immigrant Breast Nest.

Dödsfärd - "Förfall"

Their band name translates from Swedish into English as "journey of death", which is a pretty fitting band name that belongs to a Swedish black metal outfit. Lo-fi and true to the black metal roots, the guitars are pretty choice, utilizing some cool progression and amplification  The drums are run of the mill, nothing spectacular but not horrible. Vocals ride a little high in the mix, but are expertly executed. True school black metal fans will dig this.

Kosmograd - "Self Titled"

Sludgy post hardcore with some psychedelic and black metal tendencies here and there. Sick ass cover art, to boot. It's a couple years old now, but age ain't nothing but a number when speaking of good music and the first time hearing it. Check it out.

IAYD - LIVE @ STUDIO B (06.09.2012)

IAYD Live 6/9/12 @ Studio B in Corpus Christi TX

So, here it is; the absolutely raw recordings of one of the last IAYD sets at Studio B in Corpus Christi, TX, the summer of 2k12. Hands down, this set is one of the most emotional sets I've ever played (I'm going to miss Studio B a whole lot), as well as one of the most chaotic and absolutely insane crowds I've ever had the pleasure of playing for; and the amount of times I become unplugged reflects that in the recordings.
Personal highlights from the show include: 8 bottles of champagne popped during the set endless high hives/hugs/sentimental people endless cart corruption three buttons off of my shirt getting ripped off my table collapsing from bassweight/crowdweight

the rest you'll have to discover for yourself.
I just really hope you enjoy it.
(those who choose to donate will receive the raw video footage of the set, as well as the raw GB recordings of the full tracks, [City of Mediocrity, Get Death, and etc.])

Torture Chain - "Time Is But A Doorway To The Incinerator"

Pure and brutal USBM from Torture Chain originally released way back in the first half of last year on a now sold out limited cassette run. Running just under 24 minutes as a single track, Torture Chain ride the proverbial wave of all that is contemporary unadulterated black metal. Slow morphing intros and segue ways through to truly ripping black metal thrashings. Traditional black metal musicianship and framework but with enough originality and ingenuity to keep it fresh and interesting.

Vulgar Disease - "Gangland"

So, you guys are all listening to the Torn Flesh Records netlabel by now, right? I mean, you definitely should be, for how much we talk about it here on Magicore. If not, let's add another specific and tasty little morsel to the platter.

Vulgar Disease are an unparalleled noise act whom happen to get some love from one of the coolest netlabels around, so I mean, it's a win/win circle jerk in the pits of hell or some shit, ya know? This one, entitled "Gangland", is some oppressive and dense ambient noise laced with blackened occult tendencies. Just punishing and uncompromising, even at its most subdued and seemingly mellow moments. A lot of people want to throw around the term "harsh noise" in reference to Vulgar Disease, but when I think harsh noise I think of high pitched squelches and squeals and - usually - haphazard noise creation. What Vulgar Disease does is something vastly superior to turning everything on and up and then seeing where the sonic crumbs fall. This is a ritualistic experience of sound, not to be taken lightly.

Jungbluth - "S/T Tape"

It's not in my nature to lie to the people about the music, so I'm not gonna start now. How I happened upon this release, I have no clue. What happens is, I spend about one night a week just downloading a shit ton of music from numerous and various sources, then I spend the following week (attempting to) going through it when I've time. This has left me with a HUGE (and ever increasing) folder of new music and an impossible way to discern where I got what from. So, when I cue something up, I give it a few minutes and either continue listening because I dig it or shitcan it because I don't. If I dig it, I go looking for more info to see if I can buy it, if I can post it, and in both cases I look for as much information about the artist and release as possible. Fun life, eh? And that's just what I do with my free time.

Anyhow, Jungbluth's self titled tape was something I happened upon and from about 3 seconds in knew that I was gonna love. I was right. When I went looking for info on these guys, I read a lot of reference to "screamo" as a genre - a genre that I 99.9% of the time cannot stand. Give it up for Jungbluth being part of the .01%! But, as you might expect from myself and Magicore, it's never that black and white. Jungbluth craft a ridiculous blend of, as mentioned, "screamo", but it is far beyond that. Oldschool punk rock, screamo, post/progressive metal tendencies, hardcore, and much more are all swirling in this sonic maelstrom - and this self title tape is hugely enjoyable and recommended if even a small fraction of anything mentioned thusfar is something you're even remotely into, guaranteed.

So. Go get a tape if you can. If not, definitely get a download.

Here.
