Chordotomy - "The Precious Ideal"

Free two track promo demo of absolutely rifftastic gutteral growl driven brutal death groove grind from Germany's Chordotomy. Heavy to no end, the pace is that of a beast shitting guitar riffs over super tight drums with one of the more enjoyable fullblown gurgle vocals I've heard in a while - usually that shit drives me nuts, but this cat pulls it off. Superior combo of relentless patient grind and almost groovy death thrash type shit. You're gonna love it.

Absolutely incredible breakcore from out of nowhere AKA Russia by way of Zeuge. Creepy crawly sonic brainworms slither into your ears and borrow into your mind, giving birth to infinitely legged percussive plagues which take over your entire psyche, causing your synapses to exhibit internal seizure like traits at increasingly close intervals at increasingly greater speeds.

Encryptor - "Sludgery"

Real. Fucking. Good.

Sydney grindy/fastcore/powerviolence band, originally called Ballistic Assault Unit. Members also played in Dot Dot Dot, Gracist and Hypnotoad and went on to form others like ROFL and the Ed Rodrigues Trio.
Recorded December 2001 with Fred Rodrigues, these tracks were originally intended for a split with Brisbane's Brain Resin on Deplorable Records, then Spin Control was going to do something with it up 'til fairly recently I think...all to no avail. Finally up and available here now, 10 years and untold dead braincells later.

Influenced by the likes of Discordance Axis, Spazz, Pig Destroyer, I-Spy and Swallowing Shit, ENCRYPTOR (not the Christian death metal band) were known for 20 minute sets of ruthless blastcore sans bass player.

BLUDCLOT026 - V/A - Junglecorps Vol. 1

Junglecorps. What is it? A gathering of some of the finer names in underground and roughneck breakbeat music on one compilation, each delivering some of their toughest and most upfront material. This is not for the casual listener, the part time jungle lover, or the uninitiated. This is for the diehard, the truly rude and rough, the heads who like their jungle tough.

We assembled 23 artists across 23 tracks for the first volume of “Junglecorps” and are proud to unleash its fury upon soundsystems and headsets the world over. Huge bass of every shape and style, breaks chopped to hell and back and then reassembled in every possible combination, atmosphere and sampling from the pits of blackholes to the heights of the heavens. Each of the artists bringing their own unique take on the rougher side of jungle music, there is everything from upfront foot shuffling dancefloor demolishing numbers to outright noise and sonic fuckery. And, of course, everything in between. A truly international affair, there are artists stepping up to plate on this combination from countries all over the globe. We couldn’t be happier and more proud to work with everyone appearing on this compilation, and we are pretty sure you will be happy they were all brought together on this single release.

Huge thanks to everyone involved along the way, extra stout bigups to unsoundbwoy for all his hardwork on this one!

Arm yourself and go to war, this is Junglecorps!

Idol's Pague - "Angels To Some... Demons To Others"

I had the pleasure of randomly catching these guys here in Arizona the night before my birthday. I was looking for something to do, considering it was my birthday weekend, and couldn't find anything. I texted a few people here I know and it looked like I might not be doing anything cool for my birthday. Until one of them texted back (Hi, Christi!) and offered to take me to this dive bar she was a fan of. Sounded like as good an option as any, considering it was - as I mentioned - my birthday weekend and that I also love dive bars. Come to find out there were some bands playing, described as stoner/punk from one of the bartenders. I was down. A couple other bands played, and I enjoyed them - but I don't remember who they were, as I obviously didn't enjoy them all that much. But I remember Oakland's Idol's Plauge.

Idol's Plague play a pretty rad concoction of various types of metal. Especially cool is that they are as awesome as they are and there's only two members - a drummer and a guitarist/vocalist. With just the two of them, they hit the stage like a dual monolithic powerhouse not often experienced from even a more full and traditionally well rounded band. The drummer is super tight and on point, ridiculous shifts in time signature and tempo, then back again with cool fills and rolls executed perfectly. The guy responsible for vocal and guitar work is a nice one two punch in the gut, blood vessel bursting agonizing screams and riffs upon riffs all drenched in distortion and feedback.

The vocalist hung out with us for a bit after their set and talked shop. Cool motherfucker. I bought their CD and talked my own shop. He said it was cool if I ripped the CD and included it with a review, so that's fucking awesome.

Their bio or whatever from their Facebook page reads:

A creation inspired by the negligence and frustration of sitting still... By complacent, unchallenged ears and minds that provoke an excuse for us to explode frantically, spiritually, aggressively, without a second thought of tomorrow.

You get the picture. Super dope. If you get the chance, go check 'em out live. Until then, here.

Son Lux (BreakThru Radio Session)

Photobucket

Son Lux (BreakThru Radio Session). Extremely passionate and melancholy pop for underground electronic music geeks. Warbling emotional male vocals crawl over moving piano pieces, stumbling splashes of chimes, and tides of analog sounding synths wash over it all, though nothing ever overpowers Son Lux's crooning. The vocals are always the main focus, providing the most moving aspects of the songs as complete entities. These tracks where all recorded live, adding considerably to the passion that leaks from the speakers with every note. Something a little different, a treat for our beloved Magicore followers.

SRAVANA108/THE NOTHING * I'm Ashamed To Be Human

Srvana108 and The Nothing "I'm Ashamed To Be Human" starts off with a ten minute piece of epic musical story telling. A swirl of jungle-esque breakbeats court neo classical flourishes and ambient washes. Dancing through a myriad of genres, such as dubstep, ambient, idm, and more hardcore leanings, "I'm Ashamed To Be Human" captivates. Though i can describe the music contained within with genres, the categories do not do the music justice. Each track has a unique take and blend on our preconceived notions of musical styles. Though a good portion of the album carries a serious tone, there are moments (which you will recognize immediately) full of humor. One of the better electronic releases i have heard in awhile.

Ranging from sound collages to stoner noise, plunderphonics to ambient analog noise, RedSK 2 [tape] provides a dark mechanical journey through a radio close to disrepair, forgotten in a landfill long ago. Pregnant Spore - The Self CDr

Pregnant Spore brings a well crafted offering of noise cutlets to the table. 24 servings of cold noise. Harsh by all means, bass destruction and hi pitch shrieks are definitely there, but still containing the right measurement of sonic ambience and vocal melancholy to keep it from becoming stale. All the material was recorded live in one take, live composition. It came out beautifully. At times the pitches become too high to be enjoyed (though the enjoyment is a matter of taste), but infrequent enough to keep me from changing to something else. Suggested for fans of analog noise. I am reminded of Merzbow at times while listening to this release. I think thats a good thing. Limited to 40 CDr copies from Rainbow Bridge Records, now for free download! Check it out!

Amen-talist - Round 2

Photobucket

"This compilation is a selection of tracks from various members of Amen-tal. (Plus a few additional tracks from some like minded producers from the Jungle Syndicate and Life 4 Land crews.) A collective of producers who all enjoy hearing the amen break more frequently than your doctor would normally recommend. The beats they make range from ambient drones to full on filth riddled breakcore, but with their main focus being on various strains of jungle music." - taken from Acroplane Recordings website

Great tracks from Dr...um, Axewound, Sams Myth, Sargy+Raggamuffin, and a few more. After being out of touch with contemporary Jungle for too long, I am happily surprised to see so many talented artists keeping things rolling and going strong. It has been well over 20 years since Jungle music came onto the music scene. It is a testament to the genre that listeners are just as enthusiastic now as they were when Jungle was still a new kid on the block. The amen will never go stale. LISTEN CHOON!

Be sure to check out the Jungle Syndicate page where i found about this awesome release and some really great artists!

Goto80 - Unlimited Edition

Goto80. To me that name is synonymous with great music. Unlimited Edition does not upset the status quo. His 50th release, all the way back from September 2007. Yamaha funk soul jams blare at max volume, a soundtrack to a 90s VHS tutorial earthquake, crooning a sonic shriek that gives confused pause before shattering your knee caps with waveforms of the utmost decadence. A plodding, unforgiving beast of mutant chip muzak. When you ride to hell on that spooky, dingy little elevator we all know awaits us, you will here this album. Be prepared for the bowel liquefying bass monsters. DOWNLOAD THIS.

Black Vulture - "Way"

Self proclaimed "experimental black metal" from Rio De Janeiro courtesy of the wretched creature known as Black Vulture. This definitely isn't going to be for everyone, even seasoned black metal fans and experimental music fans alike. At moments, truthfully, I find myself taking it seriously and pondering why in the hell someone would release this pile of filth. But at just as many moments, if not more, I'm totally engaged, intrigued, and thoroughly enjoying what I would call an absolutely brilliant release. It's a fine line between genius and insanity, as they say, and Black Vulture puts you to the test trying to discern where its material falls.

Most notably putting off is one of the primary vocal styles employed, a sort of kitschy screech that I'm just not very fond of. But, I find myself not noticing it or enjoying its use in certain places on the record, being fully engulfed in enjoying some other aspect of the track at the same moment. The drums on "Way" range from a sort of hack live improv feel to really well orchestrated stompy chuggy metal chops; sometimes it sounds like percussive vomit and at other points it feels so spot on and well rehearsed. Other than that, I really enjoy the sound of the snare used. The bass and guitar work sounds like blackened noisy psych rock workouts on a ten strip while throwing a party in Hell. Spastic while still very much like a heat seeking missile on its path into the mouth of a volcano, the tone and efforts here really make the album shine.

And fuck it, I like the album cover, too.

Belkardt - "To Reach The Silent Black Monolith"

Pretty awesome and old Russian black metal. Aside from that, little to be shared in terms of information about the band and release. This is a demo from Belkardt dating back to 1996 which was self released. I would actually really like to own the cassette demo for this, it's really great black metal. Awesome plodding drums with superior fuzzed out melodic guitar work and nice gurgly vocals kind of drifting in and out of the mix. A couple mammoth 10+ minute tracks, one 8+ minute number, and a closing 2+ minute song. Half the allure of this particular .zip is the sort of worn cassette sound that comes through in the rip - it really adds to the character of an otherwise already great black metal ritual.

Atrek - "Atrek"

Real cool straight forward sort of depressive black metal all the way from Chile. Super fuzzed out guitars belching out pretty sick melodies, crashy drums bouncing off the cave walls, screeches and howls from the depths of the underworld. Pull the trigger.

Atrek - "Atrek"

Nameless Coyote - "Devoured By The Swirling Night"

Fuckin' epic "blackgaze", the kids are calling it. Essentially it's like shoegaze and black metal fornicated in the back of your favorite headshop upon a stack of burning bibles and beneath a blanket of awesome. Shit, I'd like to fornicate in the back of my favorite headshop upon a stack of burning bibles and beneath a blanket of awesome while listening to this; it'd be straight out of a corny 80s tween lovestory movie that was a little more "hard" and cool. Choice.

Nameless Coyote - "Devoured By The Swirling Light"

- DCKR

Siamese Twins - "Demo"

Here's some really great female fronted sort of shoe-gazey tinged post-punk or something or other. Catchy yet dark little ditties from the underbelly of Chicago, Illinois. A sort of stripped down and more gloomy take on punk influenced indie/garage rock, there's something really engaging and intriguing about this one from the trio calling themselves Siamese Twins. Quite a departure from what you usually find here and what I normally champion at my local online hangouts, it's definitely worth your time.
